Nick

nick.JPGI suppose that, unlike my fellow karate senshuu, I joined the club not really to learn karate, but to improve my Japanese.
From experience, I found that actually doing something in a language, such as something sporty, can really help you improve your language ability (as well as having obvious health benefits).
After joining, and after overcoming initial shyness, I began to have little conversations in Japanese and develop little relationships with my classmates.
The other students are all really nice and although my Japanese was embarrassingly poor they never once dented my confidence by for example laughing out loud or making fun of my awful Japanese.
These days, although my ability is still weak, I have much more confidence and no longer have panic attacks at the thought of having to talk Japanese to native speakers anymore.
Also, as the class is held in Japanese, I feel that my ability to understand Japanese has especially come a long way.
So, if you are tired of studying Japanese by yourself, or if you are Japanese and want practice speaking English then maybe consider karate as a way forward.
Also I could not finish this without mentioning how I managed to shed several pounds of disgusting fat and how I feel much stronger and these days.

Kume

kume.jpgFor me, the attraction was that the kicks in Karate look so cool.
Although I had never really done any hard training before, I decided to join a trial lesson.
I was a bit worried that it would be very hard, but the sensei's teaching style was very easy to understand,
with feedback given in a kind way.
After the trial lesson, I was enthralled by the classes and the punches and kicks in the classes help me to remove my stress.
Come along and see for yourself!

Kaneko

kaneko.jpgI come to a trial lesson at this dojo after a friend invited me.
At first I was not so enthusiastic,
but the class was fun. so I decided to join.
Since joining I have stopped getting colds, and started losing weight,
so I have been very happy about these unexpected effects.
On top of that, as the class has different types of people including
some foreigners it is fun to meet everyone at the lessons.

Onoo

onoo.jpgI have been interested in Martial Arts since I was young,
So I thought I would try out Karate.
Apart from senseis Karate techniques in class,
I have also been taught lots of muscle training and stretching
exercises that I can do at home.
I have been doing these at home regularly, and my body has got much stronger and I have more energy.
My short-term goal is to develop enough body and inner strength to be able to kick a baseball bat into two pieces.

Amada

I was never really into doing exercise before, but after mentioning to a friend that I wanted to start some sport for fitness, I was introduced to this Karate School.
I thought that Karate had a scary image, but this dojo was a lovely place, in the heart of Aoyama.
The other students were very friendly, and the sensei’s teaching style was easy to understand.
So I joined, and that was six months ago.
I feel I have progressed well, thanks to the sensei’s combination of teaching praise and encouragement. With five classes a week, in different convenient locations around Tokyo, it’s easy to attend regularly-even with the busy pace of Tokyo.
Regular practice, and working up a good sweat each time, has made my mind and body stronger and healthier.
It’s even raised my concentration levels .
Come along and try out a class.

Aoyagi

Since starting Karate lessons, I have felt both my body and spirit get stronger.
My body feels lighter, and I have become more flexible too.
My thoughts and actions have become more positive too.
I think this is a result of the basic training, which is my favorite part of the class.
Shouting “Kiyaii”, while punching and kicking has helped me increase my level of energy.
My shoulders are looking stronger too, as an attractive sales lady commented on the other day.
It’s had a great impact on all areas of my life.

I started doing karate a few months ago because I wanted something a bit more exciting than running for 30 minutes on a treadmill at the gym.
I currently attend classes at the Kagurazaka School. It's a small school, so it's personal, which was what I was looking for. These classes are really convenient for me and I really enjoy it.
Sensei Saito is a really good teacher and I have learnt a lot from him. His instructions are slow and clear, which makes it easier for someone who hasn't done karate much before to learn quickly.
He is very encouraging and happy to explain things several times to people like me who are a little uncoordinated.
He also has a good sense of humor.
I recommend this school to anyone who is looking for something different and wants to get fit.

Saiki

When I decided to start Karate, I visited a number of different schools.
However, visiting this dojo left me with the impression that it was different.
It is not as strict as other schools, and Saito sensei’s unique style, combing example, attention to correction and giving praise to students results in a comfortable atmosphere.
As there are foreign students in the class too, we can communicate with each other, which is a lot of fun.
This class helps me lose stress and burn fat: black belt here I come!

Shibata

I have been studying Karate at this school for about half a year.
Saito sensei’s Karate style is professional and sharp, yet his teaching style is gentle,
with a strong focus on thoroughness. Due to these points, my progress has improved at a good pace.
The atmosphere at the dojo is a lot of fun-there are male and female students of different
countries and backgrounds, which is a great opportunity for cultural exchange.
Since I started Karate, my life has changed in many ways, including my diet-and has let me to have more energy and get tired less. It has also had a very positive influence
on my work.
I am extremely grateful to Saito sensei and the other students at the dojo, as we
learn together, and have fun together.

Shibuki

I have been studying Karate since June 2005.
When I started University, I stopped doing any exercise.
I was thinking about starting when I saw an advert for this Karate school in “Caz” magazine.
Everyone in the class is very kind, and we all have a lot of fun there.
The dojo has a great atmosphere, and sensei’s instruction is very easy to follow.
About half the class are foreigners, so the class has quite an international feel to it.
Karate is very useful for relieving stress, and for improving my confidence to defend myself. I whole-heartedly recommend this dojo to anyone who is interested in starting Karate!

Matsuoka

I love doing Karate. Every week we come together and Saito sensei puts his heart into making sure we are all learning in a fun atmosphere.
Every loud “kiai” is exhilarating and helps release the stresses of the outside.
At first I didn’t know how to do the punches and kicks, but little by little, I started to remember and then my confidence increased.
I like kicks the best, especially as they have helped my legs become beautiful and shapely.
I recommend for all women.
And the best things is that food tastes absolutely amazing afterwards.
Come and join us.

After 4 or 5 years of nothing but work, I needed to find a little bit more of a balance in my life. One of the things that I really miss from college was the martial arts and with Saito-sensei’s class was just around the corner in Daikanyama, it was a great chance to get back into it. It’s amazing what you lose in a five-year blank…The class is in a fun and relaxed atmosphere and there is no better stress release like doing a few sets of punches and kicks. The instructors and students are friendly and there is a great mix of Gaijin/Nihonjin and guys/girls. I’m hoping to improve my flexibility, strength and speed and it’d be cool to get a blackbelt along the way.

Lets face it! Tokyo is a stressful place sometimes. Hard, long hours at work. Crammed trains. Frustrating bureaucracy. But there is a fun part to all the stress. And that is the De-stress! What better way to unwind then unleash the power within, and strike out at an innocent punching mitt? The combination of discipline, practicing of new techniques, putting all your effort into making every action carry as much power as possible and the solid good workout you get doing all of this makes the Karate lesson an intensely satisfying educational exercise experience. From the start of the lesson, with a body warm up, and then moving on to the regular punch and kick training, the focus is on getting the correct form so that your actions utilize maximum efficiency. The combination training provides the opportunity to put various combinations of the things you learn into practice, and the kick mitt training- my personal favorite- allows you the pleasure of unleashing your stress on an inanimate object that, with a little imagination, can be anyone you want. Come along and try it out!!

Tom & Chieko

We joined Saito-sensei’s karate school in November 2004. It has been enormous fun to learn karate from him and the other instructors with all the members of the class.
We are learning karate together so neither of us becomes stronger and quicker than the other one! We love to practice karate and we are looking forward hopefully to improving further. In class after warm up and learning basic karate moves, members of the class work in pairs practicing kicks and punches. Luckily Saito-sensei has not asked us to work together in the practices so we don’t know which of us is the stronger! Karate is a fantastic and enjoyable way to get fit and learn to balance and control your body and strength. You instinctively forget about work and other worries as you concentrate on the moves. We also enjoy the occasional karate class dinners and parties!

When I became 40 years old, I was not confident anymore about my physical flexibility. I want to be strong and flexible; this was the motivation to join this Karate class. Besides the lessons, we have really nice atmosphere regardless of nationality and generation. I’m quite satisfied with the very nice instructions and lessons given by this well-trained instructor. Anybody who wants to be strong, to work out, to have good friends through Karate, should join this Karate School.

Jiri

Karate, judo and aikido are popular sports in Czech Republic but I have never been a sportsman, so I started doing karate only when I was forty. I might not have started doing it at all but last March my wife read on the Internet an advertisement that a karate school in English would start from April in Daykanyama. She wanted to try it and I agreed to go there with her.
I must say that I am not a very hopeful student and when we do a warm-up at the beginning of every lesson it seems to me that the points of my feet are unbelieveably far. Nevertheless, I do like attending our lessons because I get to do something with my body at least once in a week but also especially because of the friendly atmosphere there.
